The Emancipation Park Conservancy teamed up with Lucille's 1913' to help feed Houstonians in traditional Juneteenth fashion. FOX 26's Denise Middleton gives us a look at the celebrations.

Saturday looks hot and humid, but there's only a 20% for any rain since the tropical low is heading well to the east of SE Texas. Sunday will bring a few showers as more humidity moves onshore and early into next week. Monday and Tuesday have the best chance for scattered showers, while the rest of the week will be hot and muggy.

Juneteenth is now a national holiday, but some say it isn’t enough

President Joe Biden signed legislation today that made Juneteenth a national holiday. The holiday marks the day the last American slaves, in Galveston, learned they were emancipated. But many in the Black community say a paid day off at work isn’t the meaningful change they want. Our panelists join The Factor to debate the backlash.

Galveston, birthplace of Juneteenth

It was on Galveston Island 155 years ago that General Order #3 enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation was read aloud, letting the slaves of Texas know that they were now free. The Civil War had ended in May, and it was time for slave holders to let go. Photojournalist Darlene Janik Faires shares the island's significance on this day.

New film released "Miss Juneteenth"

Hollywood is celebrating Juneteenth with the film “Miss Juneteenth.” Set in Texas the film also stars two actors from the Lone Star state and Backstage OL.com's Dave Morales spoke with both of them only for FOX.
