Woman arrested, charged with DWI after fatal crash involving a motorcycle
HOUSTON - A female is dead, and a male is hospitalized after a crash involving a motorcycle early Saturday morning. The driver, 34-year-old Trymeshia Smith, has been arrested and charged with DWI in connection with the crash.
Deputies say just before 3 a.m. two motorcycles were driving side by side northbound on Fry Road, just north of I-10 in west Houston.
The motorcycle on the right side of the lane was driven by Kade Sorrell, and the passenger was Katelyn Sorrell.
At the same time, a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Trymeshia Smith, was stopped facing southbound in the northbound turn lane. Deputies say Smith turned left in front of the two motorcycles. The motorcycle on the left side of the lane was able to swerve and avoid crashing with the Malibu.
The motorcycle with Kade and Katelyn Sorrell was not able to avoid the crash.
Both Kade and Katelyn were thrown from the motorcycle.
Katelyn Sorrell died at the scene. Kade Sorrell was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Kade and Katelyn's ages have not been released.
Smith was arrested on suspicion of DWI.
Deputies say Smith's charges may be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Smith was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
