New bill filed that would separate Texas Southern University from Thurgood Marshall School of Law
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - There has been a tidal wave of support against busting up Texas Southern University from its law school, the Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
This comes after State Rep. Harold Dutton filed Bill 2383 calling for the separation and establishing Thurgood Marshall School of Law as an independent school from TSU. It would also give the school the power of eminent domain.
Why was this bill being filed? Rep. Dutton says Tuesday night from Austin he filed the bill to protect any attempt to take over TSU by putting it into a state-supported university system.
He says it makes TSU less attractive if the law school is not a part of the deal in any takeover attempt.
