New Orleans attack update: Sulfuric acid found at Harris County storage unit

Bottles of sulfuric acid were found inside a cooler Monday night at a storage facility by FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff's Office as they continued their investigation of the Bourbon Street attack.

A storage unit rented by suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar in the 11900 block of Walters Road was searched and bottles of commercially available sulfuric acid were found.

The location was near Jabbar's Houston-area home about a mile away. Law enforcement cleared the scene around midnight.

It was confirmed by the FBI authorities they conducted "court-authorized law enforcement activity" at the facility on Monday night.

FBI Houston states there is no threat to the public at this time.

14 killed in New Orleans Bourbon Street attack

Fourteen people were killed and dozens more were injured when Jabbar intentionally drove down Bourbon Street early New Year's morning, authorities say.

Once Jabbar crashed, he opened fire on officers, police said. Two officers were struck and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities say officers returned fire, and Jabbar died at the scene.

According to the FBI, the attack was determined to be an act of terrorism, and Jabbar had posted videos to social media declaring support for ISIS.

• October 30, 2024 - Jabbar was in New Orleans

• October 31, 2024 - Jabbbar recorded himself riding a bike through the French Quarter

• November 10, 2024 - Jabbar was in New Orleans

• December 31, 2024 - At approximately 2:30 p.m., Jabbar entered Louisiana.

• December 31, 2024 - At approximately 9 p.m., Jabbar's rented F-150 is seen in Gonzalez, Louisiana

• December 31, 2024 - At approximately 10 p.m., Jabbar unloads the truck outside of a rental home on Mandeville Street

• January 1, 2025 - At approximately 12:41 a.m., Jabbar parks the truck and walks to Royal Street and Governor Nichols Street in New Orleans

• January 1, 2025 - At approximately 1:53 a.m., Jabbar places first IED (Improvised Explosive Device) at Bourbon Street and Peter Street. Several people move the cooler a block to Orleans Street

• January 1, 2025 - At approximately 2:20 a.m., Jabbar places the second IED at Bourbon Street and Toulouse Street

• January 1, 2025 - At approximately 3:15 a.m., Jabbar uses the pickup truck as a lethal weapon before crashing into construction equipment.

• January 1, 2025 - At approximately 5 a.m., a fire is reported at the rental home on Mandeville Street.
