Houston group protests ahead of the first meeting of the unelected HISD Board of Managers

HOUSTON - A broad coalition of organizations and residents is holding a news conference and protest in response to the first meeting of the unelected HISD Board of Managers. 

The press conference is taking place outside HISD Headquarters and includes a wide array of local teachers, students, parents, and advocates for public schools and children fighting against the occupation of Houston Public Schools by partisan state officials.

The group says that while serving as a financial boon for well-healed outside consultants, experience demonstrates that school takeovers in Texas have consistently failed to achieve sustained gains for students.
