New Orleans truck attack: Shamsud-Din Jabbar's past in Houston, Texas

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man who killed 15 in a New Orleans terrorist attack, is confirmed to be from Beaumont, Texas by the FBI.

FOX 26 has confirmed multiple pieces of Jabbar's background, including his military service, citizenship and terrorist organization ties.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar criminal history

Jabbar has a short criminal history in the Houston area. He was charged with misdemeanor theft out of Harris County in 2002, receiving deferred adjudication, according to court records.

Records from Jefferson County say that in 2005 he was charged with driving with a suspended license.

What civil records reveal

Civil records tell a much more detailed story about his background here.

Jefferson County records show that he was first married in 2008. That ex-partner sued him for child support in Harris County in 2012, according to records. The records in this case are sealed.

Records from Fort Bend County show he was re-married to a new partner in 2017.

Divorce papers were filed in that marriage in 2021, according to Fort Bend Records.

Those records aren't sealed and tell a detailed story of where he was at financially at the time.

The records include an email that Jabbar sent to his ex-partner in 2022.

In the email, Jabbar wrote that he cannot make payments on the house he and his ex-partner owned, saying he was $27,000 behind in payments.

He goes on to disclose that he was $16,000 in credit card debt and that the three businesses he founded were profitless, one of them losing $28,000.

The records say that he's a father of three and was ultimately ordered to pay his last wife $1,353 a month in child support.
