Two tropical storms into Mexico, on cat 1 into Texas and now a cat 1 into Florida. Hurricane Debby is going to soak Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas with up to 20" of rain. Locally, the story of the week is heat! We will likely have our hottest days of the year so far with several opportunities to hit 100 degrees. Wednesday through Friday will bring highs of 100 to 105 all across Texas. There may be an isolated storm or two today and Tuesday, but it won't have much of an effect on temperatures.

Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Weather for the first day of August is looking just about the same as the end of July - hot, humid, and hazy with very little chance for rain. Saharan dust brought our air quality into the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category on Wednesday and that is expected again today and possibly Friday. Our rain chances will increase slightly for the weekend with a chance for showers or isolated storms offering little in the way of relief from the heat. A tropical disturbance in the northern Caribbean will continue its path toward the west and all of our models are now showing a threat to the Florida Panhandle, but they vary considerably as to the intensity of the storm. For now, it's not a likely threat for Texas, but we will monitor is closely. The GFS model is very aggressive with a hurricane, but others show a much weaker system.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast: Saharan Dust remains in Houston

Saharan dust plume that has traveled all the way from Africa is impacting the Houston area giving us hazy skies and not so stellar air quality. Air quality remains in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category. So if you are sensitive to air pollutants or have respiratory issues, try to limit time outside. Dust plume should clear some by this weekend leading to better air quality and less hazy skies. Heat remains intense the rest of this week with rain chances increasing a bit this weekend. Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

A plume of dust all the way from the Sahara Desert arrived in Texas late yesterday and should become more noticeable today and tomorrow. Air quality could be affected today as dust or "particulate matter" levels rise. Expect a condition orange - "unhealthy for sensitive groups" status today, so limit outdoor exposure if you have a heart or lung condition. Otherwise, local weather will be hot and humid to wrap up July and start August as highs reach the mid to upper 90s and heat index values above 105. A tropical wave is approaching the northeast Caribbean and has a decent chance to become a tropical depression by the end of the week near Florida. Due to the disorganized nature of the system, the forecast isn't very solid just yet, so we'll monitor the outlook for any changes. The Euro computer model favors a weak system east of Florida while the GFS model shows a small low possible near the Florida Gulf Coast.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast: Saharan dust remains

Houston will be hot, hazy, and humid over the next couple of days. The Saharan Dust moved into Southeast Texas yesterday and should impact the area through Thursday. High pressure continues to take hold over Texas and should keep rain out of the forecast until this weekend.

Houston weather: Hot, hazy weather ahead

Houston will be hot, hazy, and humid over the next couple of days. The Saharan Dust moved into Southeast Texas yesterday and should impact the area through Thursday. High pressure continues to take hold over Texas and should keep rain out of the forecast until this weekend.

Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Hazy, hot & humid weather will remain in place this week as high pressure takes hold and a plume of Saharan dust moves in. We should notice a browning tinge to the sky by this afternoon and it will be more noticeable Wednesday. Mornings will be warm and humid with afternoons running at or slightly above average for the rest of the week. In the tropics, there is a broad area of low pressure in the Atlantic Ocean that is moving in the general direction of Puerto Rico and will get closer to Florida late this week as a slowly developing system. From there, it's just too early to tell. Models are not lining up well on strengthening or location, so anywhere from the Gulf Coast to the Carolinas will keep an eye on this tropical wave this week.
