Houston mobile salon used for children with special needs stolen

A trailer used by a Houston business owner to give haircuts to children with special needs was stolen from a self-storage lot over the weekend.

"It’s how I feed my child," said Dee Foster. "It’s how I pay my bills. It’s my everything."

Foster is the owner of Miss Dee and Friends Hair Taxi. The mobile hair salon is used to give haircuts to children and adults with special needs. Foster started the company about six years ago.

According to Foster, she dropped off her trailer at Extra Space Storage off Interstate 10 near downtown Houston on Saturday afternoon. When she returned to the facility on Monday morning, her mobile salon was missing.

"The parents understand, but the babies won’t understand," said Foster, fighting tears. "That is really what takes the cake for me."

Foster believes the thief, or thieves, used the mobile salon to drive through the gate at the storage facility. When Foster arrived to the location Monday, the front gate was busted with her trailer’s bumper nearby.

A spokesperson from Extra Space says their facility does not have a history of break-ins.

"Security is a top priority for Extra Space Storage," said the spokesperson. "Extra Space will support and work with local authorities on investigating this unusual, targeted break-in. We will be evaluating our security systems to see how we can improve, as well as repairing the damage that this break-in caused to our property as soon as possible."

Foster says she isn’t sure who would want to steal her mobile salon. As of Tuesday evening, no arrests have been made and the trailer is still missing.

"I just feel like I’m letting [the kids] down a little bit," said Foster. "I don’t want to let my babies down. They’re not going to understand someone took it. They’re just going to say, where is it?"

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
