Houston Teens In Foster Care Need Adoptive Homes
FOX 26 HOUSTON - Teenagers who age out of foster care at 18 face many challenges living on their own. In this month's Finding Families, Sally MacDonald introduces you to a teenage boy who hopes a family will give him a promising future.
We set up a friendly shoot around for Finn, 15, with Texas Southern University basketball star Cainan McClellane.
Finn turns 16 soon. Born in the United States, his parents abandoned him as a baby. He went to live with a grandma in Mexico, who also decided she couldn't take care of him. Two years ago, he wound up in foster care in Houston. Depelchin Children's Center wants to help Finn get adopted by a loving family.
He loves basketball and lights up when talking about his girlfriend.
The family who adopts Finn can qualify for adoption assistance. He also gets free college tuition and health care.
"We do provide counseling, support groups and other interventions to enable Finn and family to attach and establish a long lasting bond," said Atasha Kelley-Harris, Depelchin Children's Center.
