Tropical Weather Forecast - August 4, 2023
All is quiet in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea & Atlantic for now with no tropical cyclone formation expected over the next few days. A few disturbances in the eastern Atlantic are battling Saharan dust and will likely not get stronger. Eastern Pacific is more active with a high chance for a tropical wave off the SW Mexican coast to develop into a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. We also still have Hurricane Dora in the east-central Pacific which has gotten a little weaker. The good news is that it should pass south of the Hawaiian Islands early next week.

There are a couple of tropical waves near the west coast of Africa but at this time tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours. There's still quite a bit of Saharan Dust in the Atlantic that these possible systems will have to fight against. All is quiet in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for now. In the eastern Pacific, Dora remains a major hurricane but is not a threat to land. Dora should pass well to the south of the Hawaiian Islands early next week.

Disturbance in the middle of the Atlantic now only has a small chance to develop into a tropical cyclone as it moves north. So it will likely not become a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm. In the Eastern Pacific, Dora is a small but powerful hurricane moving west but is no threat to land.

We are still tracking one tropical wave in the central Atlantic which now only has a 30% chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm Emily as it moves north. It is not a threat to the US coast. Things are still quiet in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean with no tropical cyclone formation expected over the next few days. In the eastern Pacific, Tropical Storm Dora has formed and is moving west away from Mexico. It is expected to become a major hurricane by Thursday but is not a threat to land at this point.

A tropical wave in the central Atlantic is a bit less organized today but still has a good 60% chance for development over the next 2 days & a 70% chance over the next 7 days. But it is moving north & should stay away from the US. Another Tropical wave in the western Atlantic only has a 10% to develop into a tropical system as it races to the ENE.

A tropical wave now pushing into the central Atlantic now has a 20% chance for development the next 48 hours and a 60% chance for development the next 7 days. There's a decent shot this could become tropical storm Emily by next week. But it is expected to turn north before making it to the US. Another tropical wave is impacting Florida and SE Georgia but is not going to develop since it is already moving on to land. A third tropical wave in the SW Caribbean is close to the Central American coast with only a 10% shot for development into a tropical cyclone.
Tropical Weather Update - July 27, 2023
It's another day without any heat alerts thanks to our slightly lower humidity. But the temperatures are hot enough and it's about to get hotter! Look for isolated rain & thunder through early evening and again Friday PM. Saharan dust remains in the area but our air quality remains in the moderate category. That means most of you should not be affected since we are not at the unhealthy level. Rain chances drop to 10% Saturday and go away completely Sunday and Monday. The heat dome will push closer to us this weekend and intensify causing another stretch of triple digits temperatures. In fact, heat advisories are likely to return by Sunday and Monday. The tropical wave near the Bahamas and the other wave in the eastern Caribbean ran into some unfavorable conditions and are no longer being monitored for development. However, a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic is not expected to develop over the next two days. But this wave has a 30% chance to become a tropical depression, storm or hurricane over the next week as it moves west. Saharan dust in the Atlantic is limiting development. But outside of the dust, water temperatures are very warm and that will act as fuel for future systems.

A decent amount of Saharan dust continues to hover over a big part of the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico & the Caribbean. This will hinder any rapid development of tropical cyclones as drier air is pulled into the atmosphere. However, there are three tropical waves with a very low chance for development over the next 2-7 days. One tropical wave is in the eastern Caribbean, one is a few hundred miles south of Bermuda and the other is in the far east Atlantic.

However, there are two tropical waves being watched for development in the Atlantic. They both have only a slim shot for development as they move west over the next 2-7 days. Tropical storm Don continues to go around in circles in the north-central Atlantic. It will remain over the water and impacts should be minimal. Another tropical wave farther south in the eastern Atlantic has a low chance for development over the next 7 days as it moves west towards the central Atlantic. \The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean remain quiet for now with Saharan dust bringing in some drier air. A disturbance in the eastern Pacific has a decent shot to become a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. The next name for the Atlantic basin would be "Emily" and for the Eastern Pacific "Dora".

Tropical Storm Don has gotten a little stronger out in the north central Atlantic with 45 mph winds as it moves west. It will eventually turn NW but is expected to remain over the water. Another tropical wave still close to Africa has developed in the eastern Atlantic with only a 20% shot for development over the next 7 days. Calvin is no longer a tropical cyclone as it has become post-tropical as it pulls away from the big Island of Hawaii. Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean remain quiet for now.
