Breaking Bond series catches Gov. Greg Abbott's attention

Governor Greg Abbott tweeted a link to our Breaking Bond series as part of his argument that we need to change the laws when it comes to letting known violent people out from behind bars, even though they've already broken the terms of their bond. Bond denied for man accused of murder

A 26-year-old man is accused of firing 16 shots, killing one man and injuring a small child while already out on bond. Another judge denied him bond after being accused of the murder.

Major felony bond reform passes Texas House

On Tuesday, lawmakers in the Texas House responded with final passage of HB-20, a measure which will make it much more difficult for defendants with a criminal history of violence to gain bond.
