Gov. Abbott appointed Scott as secretary of state in Oct. 2021 and served in an interim capacity pending Senate confirmation. He is stepping down right before the legislative session when his appointment would have come up for debate.

During a press conference Wednesday, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick revealed a list of priority investments for how the state will spend its $30 billion budget surplus.

This dispute over fair pay has been festering for half a decade. It's taken five long years but Houston firefighters finally got their day before the state's highest court.

It's been a week since Election Day, but thousands of ballots are still being counted and tabulated in Harris County as protests continue over what some are calling a "botched" election.

“Voters in Harris County deserve to know what happened,” Gov. Abbott said in part of a press release statement. "Integrity in the election process is essential. To achieve that standard, a thorough investigation is warranted."

Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) to the Center for Tech and Civil Life (CTCL) as part of an investigation to determine whether the nonprofit solicited donations under the pretext of protecting voters from Covid-19 while instead using the funds to support partisan electioneering efforts or election oversight roles normally left to state and local officials. 

From delayed openings to reports of machines malfunctioning and paper shortages, Harris County Elections Administrator Clifford Tatum said officials will be assessing all those issues once they're done tabulating election results.

By expanding their control over Harris County government this midterm - Lina Hidalgo and democrats cleared away a huge barrier to many of the programs they aspire to provide.

This will be Patrick's third term, he has served as lieutenant governor since Jan 20, 2015.

Republican Ken Paxton has been reelected for his third term as Attorney General of Texas, beating out Democrat Rochelle Garza.

Republican Morgan Luttrell has won the election for U.S. House Representative in Texas District 8.

Democrat Al Green has won re-election for U.S. House Representative for District 9 in Texas.
