Two people in helicopter crash receive non-life threatening injuries

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (WTXF) - Police responded to a helicopter crash around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning in Ocean City, NJ.

The helicopter crash was located 300 feet away from the airport tarmac in marshland. When officials arrived, the helicopter was on its side with two occupants still inside. Authorities say the two crash victims exited and walked away from the craft on their own and were treated by fire personnel.

Officials have confirmed the and identified the occupants of the helicopter. They are 62-year-old Harvey Shubart from Doylestown, Pa. and 64-year-old Carol Gray from Bear, Delaware. Both were taken to Shore memorial for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say Shubart is the owner of the helicopter and a flight instructor. Shubart was teaching Gray how to hover when they lost control of the vehicle.

It is still unknown how what directly contributed to the accident.

The helicopter was heavily damaged in the incident, ending up on its side with damage to its rotors.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FAA.
