The horse suffered from severe injuries and had to be euthanized, officials say. The rider was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated, authorities said.

Officers found a passenger-side mirror assembly at the scene and surveillance video from a nearby residence showed a small white sedan was involved.

Pearland PD investigators believe the suspect's vehicle has front-end and passenger-side damage and is missing its passenger-side mirror.
