North Freeway crash: Motorcycle rider dead after multiple vehicle crash

A deadly crash involving multiple vehicles on New Year's Eve is being investigated by the Houston police.

Houston Police Department investigators say three vehicles got into a minor crash while traveling southbound at 12500 North Freeway around 6:25 p.m.

A gray Tesla swerved to avoid the crash and came to a stop partially on the left shoulder of the freeway, police say. The driver did not hit any vehicles.

However, police say 49-year-old Daniel Farrar was on a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle and riding at a high rate of speed with a female passenger. Farrar hit the gray Tesla from behind, causing him and the passenger to be ejected.

Farrar was pronounced dead at the scene and the 46-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, HPD reports.

The driver of the Tesla remained at the scene was not believed to be intoxicated, according to Houston police. They were questioned and released.
