Giant Blue Marlin washes ashore on Port Aransas beach
PORT ARANSAS, TX - A Texas family was in for quite a surprise Sunday when a massive Blue Marlin washed up on shore of Port Aransas. Breana Nafziger posted these pictures of the 109-inch monster fish.
Blue Marlins are considered one of the biggest fish in the world and are native to the Atlantic Ocean. They can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and reach 14 feet in length.
Beachgoers on Sunday attempted to get the fish back into the ocean. A fisherman reportedly tried dragging it into the sea, but it would not swim. There were several attempts to save the marlin, but it did not survive.
Marine biologists at the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are now slated to conduct a necropsy on the Blue Marlin next week to find out what happened.
