Two suspects have been charged in the police chase in Houston that ended in one suspect’s death and another suspect’s hospitalization early Friday morning.

According to investigators, Westside patrol officers attempted to make a traffic stop in the 300 block of Jensen Drive on a vehicle reportedly stolen from the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the 300 around 2:30 a.m. The driver refused to stop, leading to a chase.

The vehicle eventually stopped at 400 Jensen Drive and four occupants, including Montgomery and Osborne, fled on foot into Buffalo Bayou, police say.

Montgomery and Osborne were arrested after deciding not to jump into the bayou like the other two suspects did.

A third suspect, a 19-year-old male, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition after consuming a significant amount of water from Buffalo Bayou. He is expected to face charges for attempting to flee from police.

The fourth suspect went underwater and did not resurface. The HPD Dive Team was called to search for the individual, who was located at approximately 5:50 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.

As is standard protocol when a death occurs in the presence of Houston police officers, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
