Biden reacts to shooting at Trump's Pennsylvania rally

Following a shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, law enforcement officials are treating the incident as an attempted assassination of the Republican nominee.

President Joe Biden was promptly briefed on the situation by Kimberly Cheatle, director of the United States Secret Service, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and White House homeland security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall, the White House announced.

Later, Biden addressed the press, saying he hasn't spoken to Trump yet but hopes to do so tonight.

"There is no place for this kind of violence in America. It's sick. It's sick," Biden said.

When asked if he believed it was an assassination attempt, he responded, "I don't know enough to — I have an opinion, but I don't have any facts. So I want to make sure I have all the facts before I make any more comments."

President Joe Biden, speaking from Delaware, addressed events at former President Trump's campaign rally today in Butler, PA where shots were fired.

Earlier, Biden posted a statement online stating: "I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania," Biden wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally as we await further information," Biden continued.

"Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it."
