An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday but later canceled after a man allegedly stabbed his estranged wife and abducted their 5-year-old son in Washington state, according to authorities.

The initial alert was issued in the early morning hours Tuesday, but the boy was located and rescued hours later by the late afternoon, according to tweets by the Washington State Police.

Deputies responded to a panic alarm around 5 a.m. at a residence in Spokane Valley, located just outside of Spokane, and found a woman screaming for help.

The back door was wide open and they found the victim “bleeding profusely,” according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told responding deputies she had recently served divorce papers to her estranged husband, identified as 41-year-old Justin P. Robertson, and accused Robertson of stabbing her and kidnapping their their son, Ethan.

The woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, but was expected to survive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Justin Robertson left with Ethan in a 2014 Subaru Legacy with Washington license plate No. APN2450, authorities said.

After locating Justin and Ethan Robertson, Spokane County sheriff's deputies were about to negotiate the safe release of the boy.

The Spokane County Sheriff's office tweeted that deputies were negotiating for Justin Robertson's peaceful surrender, but it was unclear if an arrest had been made by Tuesday night.

This story was reported from Los Angeles.
