Houston weather: Forecast for Friday, Saturday Texans tailgating

HOUSTON - While Houston avoided any ice or freezing precipitation, it is cold, cold, cold. We'll have highs today stuck in the low 40s with wind chills in the 30s.

It looks like we'll have a light freeze tonight, so cover those plants again and take care of pets and people who might not have heat.

Saturday weather for Texans game

We have good news for Texans tailgating on Saturday. Expected sunshine with chilly, dry weather and highs in the 50s. It is definitely Texans sweatshirt weather.

Look ahead

After a few light showers on Sunday, next week looks pretty calm, but on the chilly side. We'll have daily low temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s with highs close to 60. This is normal for January. The outlook shows neither a warmer nor cooler than average pattern for Texas.

Be careful traveling

One caution: If you are traveling to the Dallas-Fort Worth area today for the UT game, be aware that ice is likely on roads. After the game and Saturday morning bring the threat of "black ice".
