Houston evening weather forecast, Jan. 7

Get ready for a major winter storm to impact parts of Texas over the next few days! It looks like the Houston area will mainly get chilly rain with possibly a little sleet mixed in Thursday through Friday morning. But if you are traveling up towards the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, a Winter Storm Watch is in place late Wednesday night through Friday evening where several inches of snow could fall along with ice accumulation and sleet. It will be mostly clear and cold tonight across Houston with temperatures near freezing. Look for increase in clouds Wednesday, with only a slim shot for rain during the day. Widespread rain will overtake the Houston area Thursday, with some heavy downpours likely lasting through Friday morning. A little sleet could briefly mix with the rain, but no major ice or snow is expected on Houston roads. But we have declared Thursday through Friday morning FOX26 Storm Alert Days due to the risk for 1 to 3 inches of rain and some street flooding. Rain should push out by Friday afternoon and evening. But temperatures will still remain on the chilly side. Look for highs in the low to middle 40s Wednesday through Friday with overnight lows in the 30s. A warming trend is expected this weekend, with high temperatures near 60 by Sunday. Slim rain chances. Return Sunday and stick around through Tuesday.
