Watching tropical system Alberto: rainy week ahead for Houston
We are closely watching the southern Gulf of Mexico where a tropical depression or tropical storm could develop over the next 7 days. The name would be Alberto and this would be the first Tropical system of the season. The chance for this happening has increased to 50%. If the system develops, it would likely stay to the south of Houston. But a big plume of tropical moisture will still spill into our area. That will mean daily rain chances next week and an increased threat for heavy rain and flooding. Models are indicating 3-6" of rain near and south of I-10 with 1-3" north of I-10 Sunday through Thursday. The potential tropical cyclone in the eastern Pacific has fallen apart and the low off of the SE US should merge with a front and fall apart as it moves out into the Atlantic.
