Houston city council unanimously approves mayor’s $5.7 billion budget

Collectively, through dozens of amendments, councilmembers sought to spend millions of additional dollars on everything from flood control studies to new chairs at City Hall. However, the mayor said 'no,' and no member of this council has the political support to challenge him.
