We finally have our first named storm of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The disturbance that brought flooding rains to Florida, is now Alex over open ocean waters with the only potential threat to land at this point being Bermuda. There was a named storm before the start of hurricane season for the last 7 years, until this year.

The center of Potential Tropical Cyclone One has now emerged into the Atlantic Ocean east of Florida. Heavy rain and strong winds continue to batter the Bahamas. The circulation of the disturbance is becoming a little better defined and still could become our first tropical storm of the season.

Potential Tropical Cyclone One has formed. Heavy rain is expected to spread over portions of Cuba, the Florida Keys, and Southern Florida Friday into Saturday with flooding possible. The system could become a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 24 hours. Tropical storm watches have already been posted for portions of Florida and Cuba.

Today marks the first day of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season & we're already monitoring two areas. Hurricane Hunters will fly their first mission tomorrow to investigate a broad area of low pressure near the Yucatan. Regardless of development, heavy rain will spread across Cuba and South Florida late week into the weekend. Meanwhile, a weak surface trough located Northwest of the Bahamas has a low probability of development. Luckily, neither look to have any impacts on SE Texas.

Saturday night leading into Sunday morning forecast
There are two cold front visiting Southeast Texas this week. The first arrives Sunday evening bringing some rain and slightly cooler temperatures. Dry and cool at the start of the short workweek, but that second front looks to bring Houston rain for Thanksgiving. There's a chance it stalls and showers linger into Black Friday shopping as well.
