Tropical Weather Forecast - October 10, 2022

Julia is no longer a hurricane, tropical storm or depression. Remnants of Julia are located over S. Mexico and Guatemala producing heavy rain and 30 mph winds. It is expected to dissipate tonight but a chunk of it could break off, head to the eastern Pacific and possibly develop into a new system. Chances for that are low. There's also another disturbance over the Yucatan Peninsula with a low chance to track into the southern Gulf of Mexico and develop into a tropical cyclone. There's a 20% chance of this happening over the next 2-5 days.

Tropical Update - Tropical Storm Julia is pushing away from Colombia and Venezuela and is still expected to strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane by early Sunday. It is forecast to make landfall on the Nicaragua coast of Central America Sunday morning bringing the threat of flooding and mudslides. Although we won't get any direct impacts from Julia, moisture from the remnants of Julia will likely spread our way by the middle of next week.

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 6, 2022

Potential Tropical Cyclone 13 has a 100% chance to form into a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours and is expected to become a tropical storm by Friday. It has 35 mph winds now but is expected to brush by northern parts of South America over the next few days bringing heavy rain and the threat of flooding. It will then track towards Central America this weekend likely as a Category 1 hurricane. Tropical Depression #12 is still well out in the Atlantic and is expected to weaken to a remnant low over the next day or two.

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 5, 2022

There's still a little action in the tropics with one tropical wave south of Barbados and Tropical Depression #12 in the far eastern Atlantic. T.D. #12 is struggling to survive and will likely become a remnant low over the next day or so. The tropical wave is set to push into the eastern Caribbean and brush by Venezuela as it tracks west. It will likely make landfall Sunday around Nicaragua in Central America.

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 4, 2022

One tropical wave in the far east Atlantic has now become Tropical Depression #12 with 35 mph winds. It is not expected to threaten anyone. Tropical wave getting closer to the E. Caribbean still has a medium to high chance to develop over the next 2-5 days.

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 30, 2022

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 23, 2022

Tropics are super active with Category 3 hurricane Fiona headed to the Canadian Maritimes, Tropical Storm Gaston impacting the Azores, newly formed Tropical Storm Hermine in the eastern Atlantic and a tropical wave in the south central Atlantic. We are keeping a close eye on Tropical Depression #9 in the SE Caribbean which is forecast to get much stronger by early next week threatening Cuba and the Florida peninsula. It's not expected to be a threat to SE TX at this point though.

Thursday evening weather forecast with Meteorologist Remeisha Shade

Record heat is expected across Houston over the next few days as a strong ridge of high pressure continues to dominate our area. We will be near triple digits through Saturday with mainly dry weather. A weak cold front is expected to bring some relief next week on Monday and possibly help to steer a tropical system away from SE TX. A tropical wave in the SE Caribbean is expected to move west and has an 80-90% chance for development over the next 2-5 days. Models are projecting this will move W then NW through the Caribbean then turn north into the Gulf of Mexico next week. Models are disagreeing with where it will head once it reaches the Gulf so it is something we are monitoring closely.

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 22, 2022

Invest 98-L is in the SE Caribbean and has an 80% chance for development over the next 48 hours and a 90% chance for development over the next 5 days. Models are in good agreement that it will track west through the Caribbean and eventually turn NW this weekend. But after 3-4 days, models disagree on where this system will head and that means everyone along the Gulf Coast should stay weather aware and keep checking in with the FOX 26 Weather Team daily. It still appears a front will dip down early next week and try to steer the system NE but there are several factors that are in play that could change the strength and track of this developing system. Once it gets going, it will have plenty of warm water and a low-shear environment for quick strengthening so it's something to pay close attention to. Fiona is still a major hurricane with 130 mph winds headed close to Bermuda tonight where hurricane warnings are in effect. Gaston is still a tropical storm with 65 mph winds which could bring some heavy rain and strong winds to the Azores.

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 20, 2022

The tropics are heating up with multiple systems we are tracking in the Atlantic. Fiona is still a Category 3 Hurricane pulling away from the Turks and Caicos Islands and will get close to Bermuda late Thursday into Friday as a major hurricane. Tropical Storm Gaston formed in the central Atlantic today but is not a threat to the US. Another tropical wave in the southern Atlantic will likely push into the Caribbean and eventually could make it into the Gulf of Mexico. But we'll have several days to watch it.

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 19, 2022

We are still tracking Fiona, now a Cat. 2 Hurricane moving away from the Dominican Republic. It brought severe flooding to Puerto Rico over the weekend and is set to hit parts of the Turks and Caicos Islands Tuesday.
