There's a disturbance in the eastern Pacific south of Mexico that has a 20% chance for development into a tropical cyclone. But it is moving away from the United States as it tracks WNW. The Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet with no tropical activity expected for the next few days.

There's a system located several hundred miles south of the SW Mexican coast. It's disorganized at this point but has a 10% chance for development over the next few days. However, it's moving away from the United States. Elsewhere, tropical activity is not expected in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean or Atlantic at this time.

Things are back to being quiet in the Atlantic Basin. Our non-tropical low in the eastern Atlantic near the Azores fell apart and is no longer being monitored for development. No tropical cyclone activity is expected to develop over the next 48 hours for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and Atlantic.

A few clusters of showers and storms are moving across the Caribbean Sea but at this time these areas of storms are not expected to develop into tropical systems. A non-tropical low is still being monitored for development into a tropical cyclone in the far east Atlantic near the Azores. There is only a 10% chance for this system to develop over the next few days before it moves into cooler waters and likely falls apart.

Tropical Storm Arlene is history, falling apart over the weekend. However, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the eastern Atlantic in between the Azores & Canary Islands. This non-tropical low is not expected to get anywhere close to the US and will likely push into cooler waters over the next few days. That means it will have only a limited window for development.

Tropical Weather Forecast - June 2, 2023

On this second day of the 2023 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Arlene has become the first named storm of the season. Arlene has winds of 40 mph and is fairly weak as it drifts south in the Gulf of Mexico. Arlene is expected to stay west of Florida and head towards Cuba as it weakens to a post-tropical remnant low by Saturday. Arlene will pose no threat to Texas. The rest of the Atlantic Basin remains quiet at this time.

It looks like the first day of hurricane season is a busy one with Tropical Depression Two developing in the NE Gulf of Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are around 35 mph and it is moving slowly to the west at 2 mph. The tropical system is expected to drift south over the next few days towards Cuba. However, it will still be close to the Florida Peninsula bringing the threat for heavy rain and gusty winds. No impacts to Texas are anticipated.
