UH and Kelvin Sampson working on contract extension
HOUSTON - Hunter Yurachek, vice president of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Houston, said he is in the process of upgrading the contract of Cougars basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson.
Yurachek said he is discussing an extension and a raise with Sampson and his agent, and plans to present the addendum to Sampson’s contract for approval to the UH Board of Regents next month.
Sampson has three years left on his original contract that includes a salary of $1.1 million.
In his second season at UH, Sampson’s Cougars earned a spot in the National Invitation Tournament, and finished with a 22-10 record.
"We're excited about the direction of our program," Yurachek said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "We want Coach Sampson to be our head men's basketball coach for the foreseeable future.
"He and I and his agent have been working through what a potential contract extension for him could look like, and hope to have something that we'll take forward to the Board at our May meeting."
