7-year-old girl found unconscious in Harris County pond

FOX 26 Reporter Matthew Seedorff has the latest on the investigation.

A young girl died at the hospital after she wandered off and fell into a Harris County pond on Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

Details are limited but the sheriff said in a tweet that deputies were called out to the 4400 block of Waterside Cove Lane, near Sam Houston Tollway and Summerlyn Drive.

Deputies learned that a girl, possibly seven years old, wandered off and fell into a pond.

Gonzalez said CPR was initiated and the girl was taken to the hospital. She was later pronounced deceased, the sheriff said on Wednesday.

MORE CRIME AND PUBLIC SAFETY

Authorities said it's unclear if any charges could be filed.

"Depending on the investigation and what comes out," said Harris County Deputy Mike Tran.  "It is possible, but it all depends on what comes out with the investigation."
