HOUSTON - Houston Independent School District is continuing its food distribution efforts around the city.
HISD is reopening its curbside summer meals program on Monday, July 20 at 12 sites located throughout the city. The Summer Meals Program will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack to children ages 1 to 18 at no charge.
Seven of those locations will be operated in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, allowing families to pick up several days’ worth of student meals as well as packages of produce — and other food items when available — for families.
HISD Nutrition Services previously operated several dozen smaller sites but streamlined operations to maximize resources in areas with the most need and reduce staff needed on-site as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the city.

As families arrive, staff will minimize contact by filling out required forms for families and placing food in their trunks. Those who walk to the sites also must adhere to strict social distancing requirements.
On Mondays, parents can drive up to one of the distribution sites to receive three boxes of food per child and four boxes of food per child on Thursdays. This will allow parents to have several days’ worth of food readily available for each child. Boxes will be provided for all children in the vehicle at the time of pickup. Children are not required to be present, but parents must have proof of enrollment in any school district (report card, student id, etc.) or birth certificate.
Sites will continue to be open on Mondays and Thursdays through Monday, Aug. 31. Locations and times are below.
