HOUSTON - Officials say a wanted suspect is dead Wednesday after deputies shot him in northwest Harris County.
MORE STORIES OUT OF HARRIS COUNTY
Details are limited as it's an active scene, but Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says it happened at Mahen's Motel Scottish Inn and Suites in the 15700 block of Kuykendahl near 1960.
Preliminary information is that Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force officers, including at least two deputies with the Sheriff's Office, were searching for a wanted suspect.
"The male was wanted on five possible charges including a parole violation for dangerous drugs, three federal open felony warrants as well for possession of a weapon, and one local charge for some type of theft here in Harris County, so a total of five open warrants," said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The suspect was identified only as a man believed to be about 45 years old. Investigators say the suspect pulled out a pistol and the two deputies fired their weapons, hitting the man.
It's unclear if the man ever fired his weapon, but officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
"The male began to retrieve a pistol from his person. He raised that pistol," Sheriff Gonzalez said during a press conference. "Our two members discharged their weapons through the glass doors and were able to strike him, possibly at least two times, we believe. We’re not sure that’ll be part of the investigation. The male collapsed and was pronounced deceased here at the location."
