HOUSTON, TX - Harris County Commissioners Court has called a bond election for August 25, 2018, for the Harris County Flood Control District. The election will mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey's landfall in Texas. Registered voters in Harris County will be asked to vote on what could be $2.5 billion in bonds for flood risk reduction projects throughout the county.
If the bond is passed, the funds will be directed to "drainage improvements, home buyouts and warning systems" throughout the Houston-area. On Monday afternoon Congressman John Culberson discussed support for the flood control bond, and also outlined plans for the $4.5 billion in federal money coming to Houston that will finish every federally-authorized flood control project in the region.
A meeting will be held between Harris County officials and residents within the Brays Bayou watershed tonight, Monday at 6pm at Pershing Middle School located at 3838 Blue Bonnet Blvd in Houston.
