Chocolate bars recalled because they may contain 'small stones'

A chocolate manufacturer is recalling certain chocolate bars in the U.S. because they may contain "small stones."

Tony's Chocolonely Inc., based in New York, New York, announced the recall on April 1 and said the chocolate bars were distributed to retailers nationwide.

What we know:

Tony's Chocolonely said seven lots of Tony's brand Dark Almond Sea Salt Bar (6.35oz) and Everything Bar (6.35oz) were being voluntarily recalled "because the product may contain small stones."

The products were distributed nationwide and sold in U.S. retail stores, as well as on www.tonyschocolonely.com. The recall notice said distribution of the recalled chocolate bars began on Feb. 7 and ended on March 24.

Why you should care:

The recall was initiated after 12 reports of consumers finding small stones in the product, which were "not filtered during third-party almond harvesting and the almond processing process," the company said. All complaints occurred outside the United States and Canada, and no injuries have been reported.

What you can do:

Consumers who have purchased one of the recalled chocolate bars are advised to return it to the store of purchase for a refund or replacement, or throw it away. Customers can check if their product is part of the recall here.
