70-year-old man attacked with his own cane

FOX 26 Reporter Randy Wallace spoke with the man after a brazen attack in broad daylight.

The Houston Police Department is trying to identify two male suspects involved in an aggravated robbery against an elderly man.

The robbers appear to be teenagers. If they are brazen enough to physically attack a frail old man, you must wonder what else they're capable of.

On September 22, Shelby Thomas decided to find out what's wrong with his cell phone.

"My pictures were coming out in black and white," he said. "So, I was going to T-Mobile to see why my pictures were coming in black and white."

FOX 26 Houston is now on the FOX LOCAL app available through Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Roku, Google Android TV, and Vizio!

First, Shelby goes into a Bunny Stop in the 8700 block of Tidwell to buy a soda.

He walks about 100 feet around the corner to the T-Mobile store.

"I got a little tired. I sat down and drank my soda," Shelby said.

That's when a young man in a mask approached him.

"He said, ‘old man, you owe me $25, check your pockets," said Shelby. "I said, ’youngster, I've never seen you before in my life. How do I owe you $25?"

Then another young man appears.

"They hit me, knocked me down. They take my cane and beat me with it. They hit me in the eye with the cane," Shelby said. "I was holding my pocket at first, he couldn't get in there. But when he hit me in the eye, I had to let go. The security guard just sat there and watched everything."

Shelby has this message for the two young thugs.

"How would they feel if somebody did their grandfather like that?" he said. "I don't think they would like it if their grandfather was did the way I was did."

If you know the identities of the robber's call, Houston Crime Stoppers.
