The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the suspect in the deadly shooting at a Cypress-area church parking lot was found dead after an hours-long standoff at a west Houston hotel.
Deputies say the suspect Arthur Edigin, 62, was barricaded for nearly six hours in a hotel room off the Beltway near Westheimer. The sheriff's office says Edigin was found dead in the room from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“We had to make sure that the safety of the hotel guess was paramount. We had to go from floor to floor, room to room, to make sure everybody was out and get them out. We had HFD assisting us with EMS in case anyone was affected by the gas and we did have a few people with a few issues respiratory wise that were treated as soon as they came down. After that was done, another CS gas round was put into the room. The robot entered and found the deceased male inside the bathroom”, explains Sgt. Thomas Gilliland.
Authorities identified Arthur Edigin as a suspect in a deadly shooting at a Cypress-area church parking lot on Thursday night.
Deputies arrived to Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church on Huffmeister Road near Cypress North Houston Road in northwest Harris County at around 7 p.m. Thursday. They confirmed the shooting was in the church parking lot.
A 66-year-old woman believed to be the man's estranged wife was found dead at the scene and another woman believed to be his 31-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital. She was taken into surgery and was last known to be in critical condition.
A 17-month-old baby was also found inside the car, but investigators say the baby is okay.
