Sugar Land police investigate home invasion in Eldridge Lakes subdivision

The Sugar Land Police Department is investigating a home invasion in the Eldridge Lakes subdivision, where armed men reportedly approached a man and a girl as they exited the house on Friday morning.

Sugar Land police are investigating a home invasion in the Eldridge Lakes subdivision on Friday morning.

Officials say a man and his granddaughter were leaving the house around 7 a.m. when they were approached by armed men in the driveway who dragged them back into the house.

Ryan Nguyen says his 13-year-old daughter, father, and uncle were all tied up.

"They tied my daddy first," said Nguyen.  "Then they tied my daughter and uncle. They took him back to the house, then they took him to open the rooms for them. They asked, ‘where is the money?’"

So, he grabbed a gun and fired towards the 3 armed gunmen.

"I tried to shoot, but my gun was not loaded," explained Nguyen. "Then, they saw I had the gun, and they ran. I shot 2 times outside, but they ran so fast. They jumped over the wall and ran."

Several people were inside the home during the invasion, including a man named Golden Rice.

"I’m scared," said Rice. "I’m petrified."

He believes the family was targeted because they’re local business owners.

"They own business, so they’re going to be targeted," said Rice.

"They’re hungry, they’ve got no money," added Nguyen. "So, they do whatever they want to do."

The Sugar Land Police Department says there does not appear to be any further threat to the community, but there is a high police presence in the area.

Harmony Science Academy Sugar Land was placed on lockdown because it is located near the neighborhood, but the lockdown has since been lifted. School officials say students are safe indoors, and there will be no outside transition or recess for the rest of the day. No visitors will be allowed for the rest of the day.
