How car recalls get reported

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) officially start car recalls after receiving complaints from consumers.

Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks worldwide over a software problem that can disable the electronic stability control system.

According to Stellantis, the trucks may have anti-lock brake software that could inadvertently shut down the stability control, which manages the throttle and brakes to avoid skidding.

The brakes would still work if that happens, but U.S. safety regulations require electronic stability control to work at nearly all times while driving.

The recall covers certain trucks from the 2019 and 2021 through 2024 model years, mostly in North America.

Truck owners will receive letters from Stellantis starting Oct. 3. You can take it to your local dealership to be fixed at no cost.
