Several Sam's Club locations in Houston close
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Sixty-three Sam's Clubs across the country are closing, including three in the Houston area. One is at 610 and Fannin, another is in the 13000 block of Westheimer and the other is in New Caney.
This also comes on the same day that Walmart, the parent company of Sam's Club, announced it would be raising its Walmart employees' pay to $11 an hour and potentially giving up to $1,000 bonuses based on length of service.
Customers that drove up the the Sam's Club off Fannin today were shocked to learn it had closed. Employees tell us they were told at work when they went in this morning.
"You know they all have jobs to do, they all have budgets to meet, there's nothing you can really feel sorry for yourself for it's just I do think they could have warned us especially employees that have been here a long time," says Joel Camacho who has been a parking attendant at this location for 13 years. He says he was given two months severance and would be allowed to apply at other locations.
