HOUSTON - The lawyer for the man accused in the death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes said Larry Woodruffe has denied involvement in her murder.
Attorney Lisa Andrews requested his trial be moved from Harris County on Thursday morning.
24-year-old Larry Woodruffe faced a judge for the first time Thursday morning since being charged with capital murder. That's when Andrews filed a change of venue motion during the hearing.
The lawyer is concerned that social media and the attention the case garnered may not give her client the right to a fair trial.
Andrews is also asking city leaders to comply with the code of professional responsibility. She believes law enforcement and leaders in the community may have a bias towards Woodruffe.
Woodruffe's alleged accomplice, Eric Black Jr. is also charged with capital murder.
Both are being held without bond.
