MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Sean Daniel Murray has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with a finding of family violence, after being convicted by a Montgomery County jury.
The trial was held on Dec. 9 and Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office chief prosecutors Lisa Stewart and Brittany Hansford detailed how Murray attacked his former girlfriend with a metal pole fashioned as a door barricade.

The victim, who was on the phone with 911 during the attack, testified Murray struck her on the head and continued to beat her as she shielded herself, causing severe injuries to her hands. She described crawling to the roadside, where a passerby found her in a ditch and called for help.

The jury returned a guilty verdict on Dec. 10 and subsequently heard evidence of Murray’s extensive criminal history. Witnesses testified to previous convictions, including assaulting a police officer in New Jersey and committing robbery in Harris County. Prosecutors also presented evidence of a 2022 assault against the same victim in Montgomery County.

It was revealed there were incidents in which Murray forced his way into homes to locate the victim, assaulting an elderly homeowner during one incident. The jury was presented with 15 prior felony and misdemeanor convictions and evidence of Murray’s three prior prison sentences.
After deliberating, the jury sentenced him to 60 years. Under Texas law, Murray will not be eligible for parole until serving at least 30 years of his sentence.
