Sick of robocalls? These states have the most complaints
WASHINGTON - If you’ve noticed more unwanted telemarketing sales calls coming through your phone last year, you’re not alone.
The National Do Not Call Registry, a tool that allows consumers to opt-out of unwanted telemarketing sales calls, has reached a new milestone.
As of September 30, 2024, there were more than 254 million active registrations, up from 249 million in 2023, highlighting the continued demand for protection against unwanted sales pitches, according to the Federal Trade Commission’s "Do Not Call" 2024 data book.
Alaska, North Dakota have fewest complaints
By the numbers:
The data, published in November, also found that there were more than 2 million complaints nationwide in 2024.
The FTC found that Alaska and North Dakota had the fewest number of complaints per 100,000 population. Alaska had 233 complaints and North Dakota had 298.

How to limit robocalls
The backstory:
Since its inception in 2003, the registry has continued to grow. Telemarketers and sellers are required to remove numbers added to the registry from their call lists at least every 31 days. However, robocalls that are sales calls remain illegal, whether a number is on the registry or not, unless the caller has obtained explicit written consent from the consumer.
What you can do:
Consumers wishing to register their phone numbers to prevent telemarketing calls can do so through the website donotcall.gov or by calling the toll-free number, 888-382-1222.

They can also report violations that do not comply with the "Do Not Call" regulations to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Law enforcement officials review complaints through the Consumer Sentinel Network, an online database maintained by the FTC.
