Road closures in Walker County and Polk County after severe weather

As the Trinity River Authority continues to manage the water release, the volume stands at 98,262 cubic feet per second (cfs) at present, a slight decrease from the previous night. Despite this, water levels along the Trinity River and in low-lying areas remain elevated, with little anticipated drop in the near term.

Possible tornado in Trinity County

A possible tornado touched down in Trinity County on Sunday night, according to the sheriff.

Road Closures: The latest report from Walker County OEM lists the following road closures as of 8:00 am, April 30, 2024:

Precinct 2:

  • Davis Road

Precinct 3:

  • Thomas Lake Road before Sterling Island
  • Thomas Lake Road at Green Rich Shores
  • Brazil
  • Bear Creek
  • Deep River Plantation (all roads)

Precinct 4:

  • Dorrel Road

State Highways:

  • FM2989 at Falba Cemetery (road washed out completely, with a 25-foot drop off)
  • IH45 East Feeder Road at Bedias Creek
  • FM2989 at Bedias Creek
  • FM3478 at Trinity River Bridge

Driving through high water is strongly discouraged, as roads and culverts submerged overnight may have become unstable or eroded.

While FM247 has reopened in Walker County, it remains closed in neighboring Madison County.

As a result of the recent inclement weather in Polk County, several roadways, including private subdivision roads, have been reported as either damaged or impassable. Residents are strongly advised to use caution and adhere to these updates to ensure safety.

Polk Co. evacuation: Residents flee after mandatory order

FOX 26 Reporter Sherman Desselle spoke with some residents as they were fleeing their homes after a mandatory evacuation order was issued.

The affected roadways are as follows:

  1. FM 1988 @ 3126: Not passable
  2. W FM 1988 @ El Camino: Not passable
  3. FM 2969 @ Ellis Grimes: Not passable
  4. FM 943 @ Menard: Not passable
  5. Sally Mayes: Not passable (washed out)
  6. Lincoln @ end of street: Washed out
  7. Kylie Lane @ end of street: Washed out
  8. Rocky Creek @ Bentwood: Very high water
