HOUSTON - A tragic crash in the River Oaks area of Houston left one man dead early Tuesday morning.
Houston Police Department Sergeant David Rose reports a vehicle was traveling westbound in the 900 block of Kirby Drive around 2:30 a.m. and went off the roadway hitting a curb. Officials say the vehicle then hit a tree before bouncing off and hitting another tree, becoming pinned against it.
The call was upgraded to a heavy rescue assignment by the Houston Fire Department.
Firefighters worked to cut the driver out of the vehicle, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Sgt. Rose, it is believed the vehicle was going at an excessive speed due to how bad the wreckage was. Police say intoxication does not seem to be a factor.
The Medical Examiner's office will determine what might have led to the crash.
