Relatives seek justice for 21-year old mother in hit-and-run death

"It's horrible," said Shanika Perkins, sobbing as she held her eight-month-old grandson. That baby and his 3-year-old sister lost their 21-year-old mother, Taisheonna Kennedy, on Saturday in a hit-and-run incident.

Kennedy was riding a bicycle on the frontage road of the East Sam Houston Parkway North when sheriff's deputies say the driver of a dark grey vehicle struck her from behind and never stopped. There is damage to the right front portion of that vehicle.

"Hit her from behind and kept going," said Perkins.

"You didn't stop to find out if she was hurt or anything," said William Jackson, Kennedy's uncle. "You just kept going. That's cruel, man."

"Give us closure, I mean, we have to bury her body in two weeks, so we just want some closure to know who did it, who caused this much pain and hurt," said Tawan Perkins, Kennedy's aunt.

"I shouldn't be going through this," said Perkins. "Please turn yourself in."

Anyone with information about the identity of the driver is strongly encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston by phone at 713-222-8477 (TIPS).
