HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Police have identified the man who was killed by an officer after they say he shot several people in west Houston. Dionisio Garza III fired gunshots at an automotive detailing center on Sunday, including the one(s) that killed 56-year-old Eugene Linscomb.
Residents at one home in the neighborhood on Wycliffe Drive near Kimberley Lane allowed a SWAT officer to enter the house that enabled the officer to shoot 25-year-old Garza, but not before seven other people were shot including two Harris County Precinct Five deputy constables and Linscomb.
Houston police arrived to the neighborhood at around 10:15 a.m. Sunday in response to a report of gunshots fired on Memorial Drive. Police say after Garza shot Linscomb, he then shot other people in the street and at passing vehicles. Stray bullets also struck a nearby fuel station, which sparked a fire.
When law enforcement officers arrived, Garza fired rounds at police units and even managed to strike the police helicopter leaving five bullet holes in the aircraft.
One deputy constable was shot in the hand and the other deputy constable was saved by his vest when shots were fired into the patrol car.
Law enforcement officers later found a pistol and an AR-15.
Police initially learned of a second man who was carrying a weapon and was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. They later learned that man, identified as Byron Wilson, was actually trying to stop Garza. The civilians who were wounded are all expected to survive.
