According to Houston Police, it happened in the 8300 block of Willow Place near the Willowbrook area. Details are limited as it's an active investigation, but preliminary signs suggest it was an accidental shooting.
Officials say the boy, 10, was with his 11-year-old cousin when the shooting happened. Police say the boy's mother asked them to grab an item from her car and around that time is when the gun went off and the child was rushed to the hospital, where he reportedly succumbed to his injuries.
It's still unclear where the boys may have come across the gun, and who was handling the gun when it was discharged. However, authorities believe the gun was in the mother's car.
