When authorities arrived, they attempted to contact 50-year-old Robert Young, who was inside the home with his wife, 45-year-old Sonny Young.
Authorities said after speaking with Robert, he stated that he wouldn't come out from the home, he racked a shotgun round and threatened to kill any of the officers on his property.
Deputies backed out to a safe distance and Deer Park Police Department S.W.A.T. was called in to assist, along with a negotiation team.
Police said they later obtained an arrest warrant for Robert for felony retaliation, as well as a search warrant for the home in an effort to recover him.
The negotiation with Robert lasted several hours, however, the negotiations broke down causing police to breach the front of the house, and gas was used, police stated.
At that point, authorities said, Robert came out of the house peacefully and he was taken into custody for felony retaliation just after 9 p.m. Friday night.
Additional charges could be filed as there were indications that there were shots fired back towards the officers from inside the house. However, that remains under investigation.
Lt. Charles Francis with the Pct. 8 Constables Office said this incident was not a normal eviction situation. He said this was an owner finance foreclosure situation as the occupants were at least one and a half years behind on their payments before they were foreclosed on. He added this has been an ongoing legal battle between the homeowner and occupants since at least 2017. Francis said there were numerous legal battles that were ongoing and the occupants had exhausted all their options.
