HOUSTON - An investigation is underway after a suspect was killed during an officer-involved shooting in southwest Houston.
According to Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Ban Tien, officers received a call to the 12600 block of Richmond Avenue about an assault in progress.
Officers responded and saw the suspect walking towards the 12800 block of Westheimer. They tried to confront the suspect, but he began evading officers and ran across the street to a cemetery in the 12800 block of Westheimer.

Tien reports officers attempted to de-escalate the situation as bystanders were preparing for services. Additional units were called to help contain the suspect by using less lethal force.
The suspect began approaching officers with a knife, and fearing he would attack, three officers fired their weapons, hitting the suspect. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to witnesses, the suspect was lunging at people with a knife and the victim at the initial location of the assault call has not been located at this time.

One of the officers involved in the shooting has been with HPD for seven years and is in their late 30s, the second has been with HPD for three years and is in their early 30s, and the third officer is a two-year veteran in their mid-20s.
All three have been placed on administrative duties as Internal Affairs investigated the shooting along with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
