BAYTOWN, Texas (FOX 26) - The search for missing Baytown officer, John Beasley came to a heartbreaking end Tuesday morning, after police say he was discovered dead in an agricultural field. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said that officer's body was found at 8:30 a.m. this morning in an agricultural field in Cove, Texas, approximately three-quarters from his home. Hawthorne extended a special thanks to TEXSAR search and Rescue Gulf Coast Division for their help.
Officer John Stewart Beasley, who goes by Stewart, was last seen Thursday around noon driving to his home in the 1800 block of Parker Place Drive in Cove.
“That’s actually from a neighbors video camera,” said Sheriff Brian Hawthorne with Chambers County.
Hawthorne says he believes the 46-year-old officer walked into the wooded area behind his home where investigators found his cell phone the next day.
“The last time we had a signal from it was about 3:30 on Thursday afternoon and we found the cell phone and it was in multiple pieces — in three pieces. The phone and the battery were separated from the battery cover,” added Hawthorne.
The Sheriff says Beasley’s son came home around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. When he realized his father wasn't home, he called Beasley’s coworkers but no one had heard from him. Later, that evening the sheriff’s office opened a missing persons case.
Hawthorne says, at this point, there is no evidence suggesting foul play.
“Our concern is, though, Stewart is not the type to disappear,” he added.
“We’re staying optimistic that he is okay. We’re staying optimistic that he is, obviously, still alive, and that we’re going to find him that way,” said Lieutenant Steve Dorris with the Baytown Police Department.
Dorris has known Beasley for about 20 years. He says Beasley is known for his work with the Citizens Police Academy and other community service projects.
Dorris says Beasley is also close friend and he always seemed upbeat and positive.
“I never got the feeling from him that he had anything eating at him,” Dorris told FOX 26.
He's asking anyone who has seen Beasley to call the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office at 409-267-2500 immediately.
He’s also asking for prayers.
“In this business we lean heavy on our faith,” Dorris added.
Beasley was last seen wearing a gray pull over t-shirt, khaki colored cargo pants and black hiking type shoes. He is 5’9” tall and approximately 220 pounds. Beasley has green eyes and buzz cut blonde hair. He has a teal blue colored tribal tattoo on his upper right shoulder.
Baytown officials say that their community and Beasley's family is now heartbroken after this loss. "They're crushed. They lost a husband, father, friend, baseball coach...They lost all of that."
