Man killed in officer-involved shooting

A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in northeast Harris County on Saturday on Fleming Springs Drive in the Woodland Pines neighborhood. FOX 26's Jade Flury has more details as surveillance video shows the moments before.

An officer-involved shooting in the 9800 block of Fleming Springs Drive is under investigation.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Harris County deputies responded to a call related to the recovery of a stolen vehicle around 10 am.

Security cam footage of officer-involved shooting suspect

Video from a neighbor showing who is believed to be the suspect walking/ talking on the phone and being followed by police. You can hear guns shots after he walks off-camera.

Officers say a suspect fled from a home on Fleming Springs Drive. 

At some point, deputies encountered the man who fled the home in possession of a Uzi-type weapon. Two deputies shot the man, killing him.

Officer-involved shooting suspect seen seconds before shooting

"The suspect produced a firearm, a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine. The suspect did not follow commands at that point either and two deputies discharged their firearms, striking the suspect," said Assistant Chief Tommy Diaz of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. 

Residents who were returning home found their street blocked off from the incident.

"We come back to just see a bunch of cops and the neighborhood just on lockdown, and it’s kind of scary," said Nicolas Borja, a resident. "It’s very scary because, like I’ve said, we’ve lived here a long time, and we never expect anything like this to happen in our neighborhood."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was described as a Hispanic male in his late teens. 

One deputy was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons, but none were injured in the shooting.
