Man accused of killing Angleton family claims he's innocent

ANGLETON, Texas (FOX 26) - The man accused killing a family of three from Angleton is sitting in a Fort Bend County jail saying they have the wrong guy.

Robert Satterfield, 36, is proclaiming his innocence.

He tells FOX 26 he was hanging out with the couple, 24-year-old Maya Rivera, 28-year-old Rayshawn Hudson Sr., and their 5-year-old son Rayshawn Hudson Jr. on Sunday, June 10. It was the last time the Angleton family was seen alive.

On Saturday, June 16 authorities found human remains that were burned in rural Wharton County. 

Satterfield tells FOX 26 that the couple let him borrow their car.

“Because I was going to go to Dallas this past weekend I was going to go to Dallas to visit my own son but I didn’t make it that far,” Satterfield says.

That's because he was arrested for drug possession in Fort Bend County on Thursday, June 14. He tells us it was days later when he found out that burned human remains believed to be the missing family was found in rural Wharton County.

“I mean, I was sad, I was stricken but you know to come find out that I was being accused of it that was a whole another story,” says Satterfield.

But the victims families aren't buying the story, saying Rayshawn was warned about Robert.

"They told him that this guy was bad news and he said 'no I want to help him because I was taught to help people.'“ says Austin Jonas, Hudson's cousin.

Authorities also say that Satterfield brought them to the property where the remains where found.

He is apologizing to the family for their grief, but maintains his innocence. They aren’t accepting his apology.

“That’s a lie because he had planned it and it’s not only him there’s another person involved in this. Somebody else had to help him, somebody else had to help him to do this crime,“ says Johana Bonilla, Hudson's mother.

Frances Rivera, Maya Rivera's mother says, “I think there’s just a whole lot more to this story than what’s actually being told, but the truth is going to come out.“

Satterfield’s bail is now set at $1.5 million.  As for the families of Hudson and Rivera, they are waiting for the remains to be identified, and are putting together an event in which to remember Maya, Rayshawn Sr., and baby Ray.
